On October 2, representatives of Eurasia International University (EIU) and the “Social Justice” NGO met with Anna Karapetyan, Deputy Minister of Justice of the Republic of Armenia.
The discussion focused on the projects implemented by EIU under the EU-funded and launched in 2022 “Justice Reform Monitoring in Armenia” (JUREMONIA) Program, specifically on the achievements, upcoming events, and prospects for cooperation within “Master’s Program and training modules in “Access to Justice: Theory and Practice” (MAJust) and “Justice Studies: Fostering Accessibility through Innovative Research” (JUST FAIR) projects.
Gayane Hovakimyan, President of the “Social Justice” NGO a member of the JUREMONIA consortium, presented the overall activities carried out within the JUREMONIA program and emphasized the importance of cooperation with EIU through the MAJust and JUST FAIR projects.
Ruben Markosyan, EIU Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs and Institutional Coordinator of the MAJust and JUST FAIR projects, highlighted the Master’s Program on “Access to Justice” and its respective training modules developed within MAJust, stressing the importance of their implementation. He also underlined the flexible study modules provided to Master’s students for designing their educational pathways, and emphasized the need to enhance cooperation with the Ministry of Justice, particularly within the “academic institution – policymaker” partnership framework.
Anna Khvorostiankina, Academic Coordinator of the MAJust and JUST FAIR projects and Head of EIU’s Department of Law, Political Science and International Relations, presented the ongoing activities and initiatives under JUST FAIR Project in details. She noted that students from the country’s leading universities have been given a unique opportunity to receive a research scholarship by conducting studies on various aspects of access to justice. Dr.Khvorostiankina also outlined EIU’s traditional events dedicated to the European Day of Justice, celebrated by the Council of Europe and the European Union, and shared EIU’s intention to mark this year’s event within the context of the MAJust and JUST FAIR projects. The university plans to organize multifaceted discussions on access to justice and to showcase creative works by young people. She invited Deputy Minister Anna Karapetyan to participate as a keynote speaker at the European Day of Justice event scheduled for October 28 of this year.
Deputy Minister Anna Karapetyan thanked for the invitation and expressed hope that her work schedule would allow her to take part in the event on European Day of Justice. She emphasized several areas of potential cooperation with EIU, including the implementation of various short-term trainings, specifically professional programs in the field of personal data protection, as well as the promotion of research activities by young specialists on contemporary issues in the sector. The parties agreed to continue exchanging information and to follow up on the discussed issues through working-level engagement.
Juremonia project started in February, 2022. It was funded by the EU and implemented by the consortium of the Netherlands Helsinki Committee, the Penal Reform International, the Social Justice NGO and the Civil Society Institute NGO.
