As part of the JOPSCIP project aimed at developing a new joint master’s program in political science, a roundtable discussion was held on March 14 with the participation of representatives from academia and civil society. The event took place at Eurasia International University (EIU) in the format of a JOPSCIP (Curriculum Development – Joint MA Program in Political Science) project information session, bringing together representatives from NGOs implementing relevant programs, members of the academic community, educational institutions, and students from various universities.
The purpose of the event was to explore the development dynamics of political science education in response to contemporary challenges in the fields of governance, security, and democracy. In times of global and regional turbulence, the educational system and political environment are undergoing unprecedented transformations. The event aimed to foster dialogue and deepen cooperation between academic institutions, scholars, and civil society, in order to strengthen political science education and equip future professionals with the necessary skills.
Within the framework of the JOPSCIP project, Eurasia International University has joined the implementation of the PoSIG (Joint Master’s Programme in Political Science – Integration & Governance). Dr. Anna Khvorostyankina, the academic coordinator of the project at EIU, presented the structure of the academic program, emphasizing its innovative advantages.
Ruben Markosyan, EIU’s institutional coordinator of the project and vice-rector for academic affairs, noted that the proposed new academic program provides graduates with opportunities to effectively integrate into organizations implementing international projects. He highlighted the program’s flexibility, interdisciplinary nature, and the possibility to study at several leading universities, which is a cornerstone of its overall effectiveness.
The subsequent discussion was followed focused on the role of the academic community in addressing contemporary political issues, the impact of regional and global political transformations on governance and democracy, and strategies for preparing future professionals to meet these complex challenges. Participants had the opportunity to ask questions, receive consultation, and understand how they could get involved in various phases of the program – at the student, academic, or research level.
Launched in 2024 and co-funded by the European Union in the framework of the Erasmus+ program, the JOPSCIP project is implemented by a consortium of universities, including the Georgian Institute of Public Affairs (GIPA, Georgia, project coordinator), Eurasia International University (Armenia), Yerevan State University (Armenia), Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU, Georgia), Paris-Lodron University of Salzburg (PLUS, Austria), and the Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje (North Macedonia).
