EIU had the great honor and pleasure of hosting Jolien Schukking, a Judge of the European Court of Human Rights

On 9 April 2025, EIU had the great honor and pleasure of hosting Jolien Schukking, a Judge of the European Court of Human Rights! The meeting was open to the public and attended by representatives of a wide range of Armenian universities.

Judge Schukking delivered an insightful public lecture titled “Celebrating the 75th Anniversary of European Convention on Human Rights”. In her introductory remarks followed by a lively discussion, the guest speaker touched upon the history and evolution of the European Convention on Human Rights, recent developments in the ECtHR case-law, challenges that are faced by the Court while applying the Convention in the contexts of ongoing wars and conflicts, the methodology of judicial reasoning and cross-cultural legal exchange.

The event was organised by the EIU Department of Law, Political Science and International Relations and the Jean Monnet Chair in cooperation with the European Law Association (ELA). Judge Schukking’s visit to Armenia is part of the project “Support to the Institutional Reform of the Constitutional Court”, which is funded by the Embassy of the Netherlands in Armenia.

We deeply thank Judge Schukking and our Partners for making this stimulating and inspiring event possible!
