Representatives of Armenian and European Universities Discussed Prospects of Higher Education Internationalization

Within the framework of HARMONY program, an international conference was held  on “Internationalization of Higher Education, its Trends and Challenges “.

At the international conference the head of the international department of the Ministry of Education and Science of Armenia Angelina Hovhannisyan presented the reforms in the sphere and the upcoming projects. The latter especially attached importance to cooperation with foreign universities in various formats, for which the Ministry of Education and Science made a relevant amendment to the new law on Higher Education Law.

The results of the research carried out within the framework of the EU-funded Erasmus + HARMONY program were also presented during the conference. The purpose of the conference is to find out the problems in the field of internationalization of higher education systems of partner countries (Armenia, Belarus and Russia).

DSC 0575The results of the research on the internationalization of the Armenian higher education system were presented by the head of the Quality Assurance Center of the EIU Arevik Ohanyan, who compared the experience of internationalization in public, private and interstate universities, pointed out particularly the directions to be improved.

Susanne Shamakhyan, Head of International Cooperation Department of the Armenian-Russian Slavonic University, presented the tendencies and challenges of the internationalization of the Armenian higher education system, emphasizing the importance of consolidation and close cooperation to ensure more noticeable results in the field.

Belarusian State University, as well as partners from the International Center for Innovation, Education and Technology, presented the experience of the Belarusian and Russian higher education systems, existing problems and challenges.

The meeting was summarized by the Head of International Development Department of Aston University (England) Andy Jip, who presented the global tendencies of internationalization of the university system, the main global challenges.

The event is being held within the framework of the Erasmus + project, “Development of approaches to harmonization of comprehensive internationalization strategies in the field of higher education, science and innovation.” 14 partners from the UK, Belarus, Spain, Italy, Armenia, Greece, Portugal and Russia, as well as the Ministries of Education and Science of Armenia, Russia and Belarus are participating in the program headed by the University of Seville (Spain).

Armenia is represented by the Ministry of Education and Science, the Armenian-Russian University and Eurasia International University. More than 60 leading experts  from Armenia and abroad participated in the conference.
